Cruising Concepts designs and crafts some of the highest quality and aesthetically pleasing companionway doors that can be found on the modern market. At Cruising Concepts teak wood is our material of choice. Its strength to weight ratio ensures that companionway doors built from teak add a minimum of additional weight to the boat but remain sturdy and secure against accidents, buffeting, and other hazards of maritime life. Our doors are cut at ¾” thickness or better to ensure stability and durability. The unique properties of teak wood facilitate close fitting mounts for screw attachments, preventing leaks and increasing the lifetime of the doors.

Latches, hinges, and door handles are fully supported by our custom designs. Cruising Concepts utilizes hinges specially placed to limit unwanted exposure while maintaining functionality. Our companionway doors can be easily and quickly inserted or removed from the hinges, which are attached directly to our individually crafted teak fascia for a swiftly accomplished sailboat upgrade. We provide additional teak finishing for covering lock plates so the installation blends perfectly into the customer’s preferred aesthetic.

All orders are processed by a personally managed digital design program, ensuring a full hands-on approach to the crafting process from the moment the order is received until the companionway doors are packaged and sent. Our design-driven mechanized carving system can create patterns of the highest detail and intricacy which we often apply to our teak cockpit and yacht tables. Cruising Concepts is proud to offer its customers the opportunity to request any inlaid decoration they might desire. The completed doors are hand varnished, or left unaltered for a classic look per the customer’s request.

Unvarnished teak companionway doors are our preferred medium for our louvre window designs. Cruising Concepts offers louvres for its teak doors, specially crafted and inserted to shed water away from the window. All louvre doors include glass and screens attached behind the louvres, ensuring a dry and properly controlled interior climate for the sailboat cabin while maintaining the classic and leak-free louvre teak design. Only our teak doors feature the precise carving that ensures our louvres stay in place, plastic designs can’t measure up.

The are made from solid teak, 3/4″ minimum standard, and are mounted with half-hinges allowing doors to be easily removed and stored as needed. The installation kit also includes a hasp, installation tools and instructions.
